São Clemente Fort in 1973

Another gem from our archive. This article, from United Press International, is dated September 9, 1973 and takes us to Forte de São Clemente (aka "Castelo" de Milfontes), as a guest house.

The article states that the then owner, Dom Luís de Castro E Almeida, decided to receive guests as a way of helping to pay for the expensive maintenance of the facilities. One of the guests at the time, invited to describe the place, said it was the "last place of peace and quiet in the world".

At the time, the estimated value of the São Clemente Fort was 500 thousand dollars. We remind you that currently, the emblematic building is for sale for 4 million euros.
